Selkie Jacket
In every selkie tale, there comes a time when she is reunited with her stolen pelt. The very moment she is, she returns home to the Sea. Many of us experience this very sort of soul retrieval after a period of drying out, gone too long away from that in life which keeps us feeling whole, sovereign, intuitive, and passionate. It comes after the hard work of finding those parts of ourselves lost to domestication, commercialization, and condemnation. Parts we gave away through over extending or over accommodating. Pieces traded for safety and a moment of solace. Then carefully, painstakingly, nursing our sore spots before stitching ourselves back together. This jacket and Sea Lion bone necklace, featured in the Carefully Gathered art show, hosted by the Sunshine Coast Arts Council as part of Madelyn Prevost's anthropological doctorate thesis, represents the indelible spirit of the selkie woman, the white bones of Knowing within her very structure, and the searing hot pink flesh of her tender innermost self. This handwoven, silk lined jacket continues the carefully gathered theme as each fibre and fabric used has been gleaned or up-cycled from the fibre arts community, and the surrounding landscape of the Creatrix. Fitting well as ritual wear during ceremony or personal reclamation work, this piece can be worn as an everyday intentional garment or as a statement at any gala, reception, or high class function. The collar is seductively worn low below the nape with sari yoke and back lining, cuffs may be worn long or upturned, with one inside pocket large enough for dinner tickets and sea glass. Sea Lion bone talisman necklace is available separately and is listed below. Garment Details: Size: 4 Small Materials: wool blends, sari fabric, wood label Washing: Spot clean by hand in cold water |

Sea Lion Bone Talisman Necklace
Created and featured as an accompaniment to the Selkie Jacket listed above, this ritual wear statement piece is imbued with the medicine of reclamation and return to reverence in every stitch and intertidal find. Carrying through the essence of collecting oneself back together, each fibre, shell, and bone has been carefully gathered from the artists's natural surroundings and fibre community. Paired with intentional stitch-work around the scallop and periwinkle, a Sea Lion vertebrae honours what's been lost along our personal journey; the completions, endings, and deaths we felt - while also bringing us a sense of The Hunt. The ability to seek what is most nourishing and take hold of it when the time is right. Two smooth stones to ground ourselves through times of initiatory transition, one is a wishing stone for calling in what we need most in life. The potentials, dreams, and desires we hope most to create with in our life. There is industry, beauty, and soft sensual healing aspects spun in too, with hand processed, indigo dyed flax, crocheted matching wool blend from the Selkie Jacket, and home spun silk and merino strands framing the pendants. The eye catching green beach glass reminds us how beautiful and soft we can invite our refinement processes to be as we move through tumultuous times. This piece is featured with the Selkie Jacket in the Carefully Gathered curation by Madelyn Prevost. |

Brigid's Mantle Ritual Robes + Altar Cloth
After many months of dark nights through autumn, winter, and into the dawn of spring, the Brigid's Mantle is finally complete. Handwoven in 100% cotton, with ample hood, 3 live edge wooden buttons, double breasted front, 2 conveniently deep pockets, and an altar cloth that can be fastened and worn as a shoulder sash or tossed across as a draping scarf, these ritual robes are imbued with the promise of, and bone level Knowing that renewal will come, no matter how long those nights of the soul might be. Hand Spun Winter Wool Scarf
This is not your granny's itchy wool scarf! no no! This soft and warm cozy-ness is perfect for snugging down into while braving even the most Canadian of winters. The colours of this wool was blended by my friend Kimmy on a drum carder, then I spun it on her spinning wheel and wove it on my rigid heddle loom. After wet and dry finishing, it has taken on a sweet felted nature to keep out icy winds while being soft on the skin. When taken care of, this piece could easily last a lifetime. Measuring 66" long and 7.5" wide, I could nip it in the post this week to you, or your chilly loved one.

Divination Shawl
Some of us are drawn to throw bones when seeking wise council. Some of us read the phases of the moon and work closely with cycle teachings, medicine wheels, or sacred archetypes and medicines within the circle. Some of us feel the urge to take our practice deeper. Some are called to finally begin. This homespun, handwoven, indigo dyed, wool Bone Casting Shawl wraps its companion in warmth and style while keeping divination tools close at hand. She comes with 3 pockets (YES! POCKETS!) and a woven pouch of collected bones to cast and read. Seal, Deer, Elk tooth, Bobcat tooth, Chicken, Moonsnail bored Clam shell, and Salmon jaw. Pull the hand carved driftwood brooch and spread this shawl on the forest floor, foreshore, lawn or table to toss bones onto the casting surface for in-the-moment divination needs. Adorned with handmade ceramic moon phase buttons aligned with the 4 directions/airts/winds, and of course the sovereign center within the sacred circle, the diviner is offered layers upon layers of information with every toss. Included with this piece is access to two online wisdom shares: "Divination Techniques ~ a strong foundation in 7 methods" plus "Cycle Teachings & Medicinal Wheels" as practice supports should one wish. Suitable for wear out and about in the town or only during ritual. She will undergo a dedication ceremony before being homed. |

Bougie Barn Wrap/Scarf
She's soft, ample, has a lovely drape and holds her open weave nicely, making for a warm yet classy wrap when worn with a dress or cozy as a winter scarf without being terribly bulky. I have been calling this beautiful mystery blend "Bougie Barn" as it has both fine gold thread and little bits resembling straw spun into it. Burn tests lead me to believe this yarn is a plant fibre, rather than wool or anything synthetic. (Did you know fibre artists become pyro-enthused when sleuthing mystery blends? it's true!) So it may be well suited to those with wool sensitivities. Woven on a rigid heddle loom, she measures 70" x 13.5"

From creation to flying the nest
A sweet reflection on some favourite pieces that have traveled from our hearth, along with a few images of their birthing processes. While some stay close and live here on the Upper Sunshine Coast, others have traveled to destinations across Canada and deep into the US. It warms my heart to know each is supporting sacred work, helping to heal, or are being used ritually ~ either in the quietly personal ways of dressing or by spiritualists during community ceremonies and private sessions. |
