We are slowly and carefully returning to in-person events here at the Selkie Sanctuary. For now, we will be hosting small, private, outdoor gatherings by special invitation or prior registration only. We do look forward to once again holding larger weekend painting retreats, arts based group ritual working, and publicly open community ceremony, and will let you know when we return to full capacity.
Long time attendees and friends of the Sanctuary will see so much wonderful development in our temple studio and surrounding grounds, including an outdoor shower and wood-fired bath, 9 weaving looms, pottery wheel, two kilns, a new kiln house, expanded dye, fibre, & medicine gardens with green house and the cairn keeps growing too of course! As of January 1st 2024, we became more self sufficient by converting to a wild water collection system for all of our creative and household water needs! A 2,500 gallon cistern and three 250 gallon totes have been installed and are now fed entirely from rain falling on our tin roof. You can read a little more about it in Our Lady of the Blessed Rains: An Initiation into Collecting Wild Water as it first appeared in qathet Living Magazine. |

Instead of a birthday drink, might you buy me a birthday waste pipe?
Since unexpectedly needing to convert our water systems to rainwater for all of our studio & household needs, we find ourselves in sudden great need of an outdoor waterless toilet! What was once to be a nice garden convenience is now imperative if we are to get back to hosting guests and gatherings again ~ as well as providing a household alternative during drought season. The salvaging for this project actually began years ago, with 80% of this building endeavour comprised of up-cycled and repurposed materials. From the augmented Nature's Head composting toilet to the opening windows, rain collecting tin roof to the locally milled cedar plank interior ~ there's a story to every piece. However... There are some expenses for new supplies I could really use community support to cover. Namely, the urine diversion waste pipe with fittings, 2nd stage humanure tumbler, and a few plywood sheets. It might not sound like much but it's spendy. |
